Garrett Wilson explains why Aaron Rodgers is vital to Jets immediate future

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson detailed why bringing in quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be beneficial for the team in the very near future.

New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas has received his flowers for the job he’s done putting a playoff-contending roster in his short amount of time with the team. There’s one issue, though, as the team was held back at the quarterback position, with Zach Wilson trending towards bust territory. This offseason, it’s no secret that the Jets are looking to bring in a veteran quarterback to help lead the team into the playoffs. Perhaps the biggest name they have been linked to is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.

During an appearance on CBS Sports’ “Time to Schein” with host Adam Schein, Jets rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson was asked what bringing in Rodgers will mean to him individually and to the success as a team.

“When you have the chance to get someone who’s one of the greatest of all-time, in my opinion, the greatest talent-wise, put the ball anywhere, and for me, being a young dude and having the chance to learn from someone like that’s done it for so long…the benefits would be, it would be hard to put a measure on that,” said Wilson. “With the knowledge he would drop on us and the people around the facility and the other quarterbacks. When you get someone like Aaron Rodgers, you immediately become a contender. Knowing what we had last year and what we put on film, we know we’re close. If we get someone like him, I immediately expect to be there.

Garrett Wilson thinks Aaron Rodgers can bring Jets to next level

Wilson is on board for the team bringing in Rodgers. Whether they do so remains to be seen.

A recent report from Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline indicated that Douglas has told people in the league that the Jets “will go all out” to acquire Rodgers. While that is all well and good, it will be up to Rodgers and the Packers as to what they want to do this offseason.

Rodgers revealed on this past Tuesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show that he will be going into a four-night “darkness retreat,” in which he will be alone by himself and to “contemplate all things [his] future.” From there, a decision regarding if he will remain with the Packers, play for a new team like the Jets, or if he’ll retire altogether.

Wilson shined in his first season with the Jets as the 10th overall pick in this past year’s NFL Draft out of Ohio State. With Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, and Chris Streveler attempting passes for the Jets this season, Wilson caught 83-of-147 targets for 1,103 yards and four touchdowns.

The NFL world awaits Rodgers’ decision. For Jets fans who want him to join the team, know that Wilson wants it to happen as well.
