Chiefs: 3 players who will never get another shot at a Super Bowl
For some Kansas City Chiefs, this may be their final shot at a Super Bowl. KC must rally behind Patrick Mahomes as they take their best shot at the Eagles.
With a win on Sunday night, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs would cement themselves as the team of an era, and perhaps a dynasty. Kansas City has made it to five straight AFC Championship Games, and now three Super Bowl. They defeated the San Francisco 49ers, and lost to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In Super Bowl 57, a young Philadelphia Eagles squad will hope to send Kansas City football fans home unhappy. Nick Sirianni is in just his second season, and their offense features numerous contributors who, for better or worse, don’t know what this kind of pressure feels like.
Defensively, the Chiefs offense will face a tough Eagles pass defense — strength vs. strength — in a battle the entire country will witness between commercial breaks. The end result will be, for some of these players, their final chance at Super Bowl glory.
Some of them just don’t know it yet.
Chiefs: Brandon Williams may not get another chance
Defensive tackle Brandon Williams is over 33 years old, and signed a one-year deal with Kansas City this past season. There’s no guarantee that his contract is renewed, and by all accounts, his next NFL opportunity will not be of his choosing.
Williams is in the late stages of his career, at a position in demand. Odds are he will not retire after this season, but he’s also not productive enough to pick any contender to sign with. The first team that calls — whether it be the Chiefs or the Houston Texans — should be the team he signs with.
This is Williams first Super Bowl, and he’s been in the NFL for a decade. He knows how hard he’s fought to even get to this spot:
“Ten years in the making and I’m finally here and I’m proud,” Williams said. “Can’t be more proud of the men around me, I’m proud of myself, I’m proud of just being from Joplin, being from Missouri Southern and grinding it all the way to here. It’s crazy, from MOSO to the Super Bowl, baby, let’s go.”
Hopefully, Williams can take advantage of the opportunity in front of him.
