Justin Fields comments on bizarre Bears offseason trade rumors

Justin Fields is not too worried about the odd Chicago Bears offseason trade rumors.

While Justin Fields is looking like one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL, he is not letting the strange Chicago Bears trade rumors get the best of him.

Despite Chicago having the worst record in the league, Fields shined through the quagmire most prolifically in his second season out of Ohio State. Along with Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville, Fields has shown in two years he is worthy of building a contending football team around. However, the Bears will have more cap space than anyone, in addition to the No. 1 overall pick.

Although Fields has heard the trade rumors, ones involving him going to another franchise and Chicago picking either Alabama’s Bryce Young or fellow Buckeye C.J. Stroud with the top pick, he is only going to focus on what he can control. It serves Chicago to trade back from No. 1, accumulate draft capital and then select a defensive superstar to build a winning program around this winter.

Here is what Fields told FanSided‘s Matt Verderame at Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl 57 on behalf of Marriott Bonvoy about the strange Bears offseason trade rumors.

” It doesn’t bother me at all,” said Fields to Verderame on Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl 57 in Phoenix. “Ryan [Poles] actually texted me yesterday and just said he was gonna keep me in the loop with everything … But you know, [I’m just going to] try to focus on the things that I can control. If I do go somewhere else, my approach towards the game is going to stay the same. How I work, that’s going to stay the same.”

It seems so logical as to what the Bears should do, but they do not do logic very well historically.

We have to appreciate Fields discussing something rather uncomfortable. He was drafted by the Bears to be their franchise cornerstone. Through his first two years in the league, he has lived up to the hype. Although the wins have not come, there is a lot to like about his game, especially his strong rapport with up-and-coming star offensive coordinator Luke Getsy on Matt Eberflus’ staff.

The fact Fields respects that general manager Ryan Poles has a job to do makes potentially a toxic situation one that is only slightly awkward and can be smoothed out over time. This is not about the Bears not wanting Fields, but rather, how the rest of the league views him at this stage of his career. Fields has tremendous value on the open market, while Chicago has a bottom-four roster…

Ultimately, Chicago would be foolish to trade Fields this offseason. Drafting a quarterback with this much upside and productivity only two years in is the stuff front offices dream about. Of course, Poles has a job to do, which is to build a winning franchise in one of the most unforgiving media markets in the country. Fields is not the issue, but rather a solution to the Bears’ nonsense.

If the Bears trade Fields at this point of his career, then Chicago will have to reap what it has sewn.
