Phoenix traffic almost made the Eagles late for the Super Bowl
The intensity of Phoenix traffic ahead of Super Bowl LVII nearly made the Philadelphia Eagles arrive late to their own game.
Before the Philadelphia Eagles were set to take the field at State Farm Stadium for Super Bowl LVII, they had to conquer another foe: Phoenix rush-hour traffic.
Ironically, football fans rushing to see the Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs created a traffic jam that slowed down the Eagles team bus, so much so that they risked showing up late to the stadium.
Phoenix Police stepped in and offered a police escort to the stadium, clearing the way for the Eagles to arrive in Glendale on time.
Phoenix traffic nearly keeps the Eagles from making it to Super Bowl LVII on time
In the week leading up to Super Bowl LVII, the city of Phoenix has experienced more traffic than usual for several different reasons. According to FOX10 Phoenix, the heightened traffic is a result of the “Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, the Super Bowl Experience in downtown Phoenix, [and] the big game in Glendale and all the parties across the Valley.”
FOX10 Phoenix also reported that Uber prices were surging ahead of the big game as well, with a ride that usually costs $20 skyrocketing to $64 on Thursday.
The traffic on gameday was expected to be a “nightmare” well in advance, as the combination of Super Bowl events and ubiquitous road closures created a perfect storm for a traffic jam. Ahead of the game, Glendale officials said that “managing traffic flow will be one of their greatest challenges,” per 12 News Phoenix.
Every Super Bowl brings in thousands of fans, shaping the economy and traffic routes of any given city. Even though Arizona has hosted the Super Bowl four times, Super Bowl LVII will always be remembered for almost knocking the Eagles off their game.
