Patrick Mahomes’ dad’s reaction to Chiefs Super Bowl win is everything

On Sunday, Kansas City won Super Bowl LVII, and everybody in Chiefs kingdom rejoiced: Andy Reid and the coaching staff, the loyal Chiefs fans, and Patrick Mahomes family members as well.

The camera quickly panned to Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce and Philadelphia Eagles’ Jason Kelce’s mother following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, but another family member was just as overjoyed.

Patrick Mahomes’ father was spotted parading through the stadium smoking what he claimed to be “Philly blunts.”

Mahomes has every reason to light it up after his son put together an impressive Super Bowl MVP-winning performance, throwing for 187 yards and three touchdowns. An ankle injury scare saw Mahomes limp off the field at the end of the first half, but the star quarterback looked healthy enough for most of the game, adding six rushes for 44 yards on the ground.

Heading into Super Bowl LVII, many expected the game to be an explosive, high-scoring affair between two playoff heavyweights, and Sunday’s matchup didn’t disappoint — until the very end, at least.

In a post-game behind-the-scenes video, an onlooker tells a jubilant Mahomes Sr, “It was Joe Burrow last week,” to which Mahomes replied, “It’s Philly blunts this week.”

Prior to the big game, the inspiring narrative of two black quarterbacks starting in the Super Bowl was ravenously picked up and spread by the media, but ESPN’s Ryan Clark had a particularly wholesome take on those quarterbacks’ fathers.

Clark praised Jalen Hurts’ and Patrick Mahomes’ fathers for teaching their sons to be leaders, and indeed, each dad can hold his head up high after the Super Bowl result. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went toe-to-toe with the league MVP and capped off Philly’s dominant 2022 season with a legendary performance, totaling 304 passing yards, one passing touchdowns, and three rushing touchdowns.

In the end, it was Patrick Mahomes Senior who came out on top as the winning dad, and he along with the rest of the family celebrated Mahomes’ triumphant second career Super Bowl. Proud dads everywhere can share the same sentiment, albeit their sons aren’t the ones throwing championship-winning touchdown passes and molding their Hall-of-Fame legacy.
