Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Got Matching Tattoos for Their First Married Valentine's Day

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck spent their Valentine’s Day getting a permanent mark of their love. Lopez shared an Instagram of the two getting romantic, near matching tattoos to symbolize their affection for each other. Lopez also included some never-before-seen photos of the couple. “Commitment ♾️,” she wrote. “Happy Valentine’s Day my love 🤍 (Look for more deets on VDay coming #OnTheJLo soon…) #CommitmentIsSexy #ThisIsUsThen #ThisIsUsNow #THISISMENOW.”

The dramatic gesture is understandable, given the nearly-20-year gap in the couple’s love story. Lopez and Affleck had been engaged in 2003 and ultimately called off their wedding a day before it happened, then broke up for good in January 2004. They reconciled in spring 2021 and got married this past summer.

Lopez spoke to Apple Music 1 at the end of November about how their first breakup devastated her and affected her love life.

“I honestly felt like I was going to die. It sent me on a spiral for the next 18 years where I just couldn’t get it right,” Lopez said. “But now, 20 years later, it does have a happy ending. It has the most would-never-happen-in-Hollywood ending. ‘That would never happen. We’re not going to write that because nobody would believe it’ ending. It’s funny because when me and Ben got back together, he was like, ‘You never performed the songs [from This Is Me…Then, her original 2002 album about their love]. You never did ‘I’m Glad.’ You never did this. You never did that.’ I was like, ‘You’re right. It was painful.’ It was a part of me then that I had to put away to move on and survive. It was a survival tactic, for sure.”
