Buccaneers rumors: Possible Tom Brady replacement is extremely depressing

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need a quarterback following Tom Brady’s retirement, and there is one name that is being floated as a potential option.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enjoyed success for the past three seasons with Tom Brady as their quarterback. They made the playoffs in all three seasons, and they won the Super Bowl in the 2020 campaign. But now, the Buccaneers will be in the market for a quarterback, as Brady announced his retirement from the NFL for the second time.

So, who will replace Brady?

One name that has recently been linked to the Buccaneers is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock. That is due to the fact that the Buccaneers are hiring Seahawks quarterback coach Dave Canales to be their new offensive coordinator.

Buccaneers to target Seahawks QB to replace Tom Brady?

As for Buccaneers fans who groaned upon reading this, that doesn’t mean he’s the starter. As Greg Auman of FOX Sports points out, who brought up the possibility of Lock joining Tampa Bay, said, “didn’t say he’d be the starter.”

Lock spent one season with the Seahawks, and that was after the huge trade that sent quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. While he did compete for the starting job throughout training camp, Lock lost out to Geno Smith. The decision by head coach Pete Carroll paid off, as Smith had a career year, won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, made it to the Pro Bowl, and helped the Seahawks make it to the playoffs.

After the successful year, Canales was brought in to replace Byron Leftwich, who was fired after Tampa Bay’s Wild Card Round elimination by the Dallas Cowboys.

It will be intriguing to see what direction the Buccaneers go in regards to finding Brady’s replacement for the 2023 season. Are they going to try the free agency market? Will they try to trade for a signal caller. Would they consider trading up to select a prospect in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft? Those are questions that could be answered as soon as March 15.
