Jesse Palmer gives his take on how well Russell Wilson, Sean Payton will work

Jesse Palmer thinks Sean Payton and Russell Wilson will work out, but with some caveats.

Whether it’s on The Bachelor/Bachelorette, or analyzing college football on Saturdays, you simply can’t escape Jesse Palmer. And why would you want to?

If you were looking for an escape from that, today’s not that day. Palmer spoke with FanSided.com’s Matt Verderame on the Stacking the Box podcast during Super Bowl week at Radio Row promoting Crown Royale and all things Canada.

Verderame and Palmer talked about the big game, what to like about the Eagles and Chiefs, and the new pairing of head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Russell Wilson with the Denver Broncos.

Palmer played on the Giants as a QB when Payton was the quarterback coach about a decade before he won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints, so he knows a thing or two about what Wilson should expect.

Jesse Palmer talks all about Russell Wilson, Sean Payton pairing

Palmer, first condemning Wilson’s personal quarterback coach that had an office in the Broncos’ offices last year, said that ultimately he thinks the pairing will work out really well.

“I think Payton and Wilson, I think is gonna coexist great. I just, having played for Payton and understanding his coaching style, and he’s just, he’s QB-friendly in the way he thinks and how he coaches. And I think the things that he’s gonna harp on with Russell I just think is gonna work. He is a whisperer in a lot ways. And he’s very good I think at evaluating people in terms of what they’re good at doing and putting them in position to succeed.”

But Palmer reiterated the fact that Wilson is going to have to leave some of his privileges behind for the partnership to work:

“Sean’s playbook is as expansive as anyone’s in football… He’s got stuff for everybody and any kind of quarterback that he can make work. And I think Russell’s gonna have to put some of that other stuff aside and understand that’s Sean’s building now.”

The “other stuff” Palmer is referring to here is Wilson’s personal QB coach. That simply won’t fly with Payton.

Palmer went on to tell a hilarious story about Payton holding a film session while falling asleep perched like a gargoyle in a chair, full with a re-enactment. You have to watch it to believe it.
