Jalen Ramsey trades have popped up on the NFL rumors mill again, but which teams should be ready to pounce at the opportunity to deal with the Rams?

Going from being Super Bowl champions to not within sight of the playoff race probably wasn’t on the agenda for the Los Angeles Rams, but here we are. And now that the 2023 offseason has arrived, the Super Bowl LVI champions are at the center of a number of NFL rumors that have already started churning in the mill. Jalen Ramsey might be the most notable figure in that, though.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler (subscription required) previewed the offseason for all 32 NFL teams and, in doing so, he noted that Ramsey might not be long for Los Angeles. The cornerback carries a cap hit over $25 million this offseason and could be cut or, more wisely if other teams are smart, a trade candidate.

That seemed to be a sentiment backed up by Rams COO Kevin Demoff as he seemed to be bidding farewell to Ramsey when asked about the cornerback’s future with the organization.

While cutting Ramsey is an option, it could be just as wise for the Rams to trade him in order to get something in return. More importantly, though, if teams can make the money work, Jalen Ramsey trades likely wouldn’t cost any interested party all that much as the main goal is for LA to get his big number off of the books.

As such, here are five teams that should explore trading with the Rams for Jalen Ramsey this offseason in order to get a steal — at least in terms of trade compensation — for one of the best corners in the game still.

CB Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys would need to maneuver but a Jalen Ramsey trade fixes a lot of problems

Once upon a time, the Dallas Cowboys held the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. They had a need at cornerback and Jalen Ramsey was still on the board as a coveted prospect out of Florida State. Instead, Jerry Jones couldn’t help himself as he took Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott, the player currently causing the Cowboys nightmares with the cap in relation to his effectiveness.

Ramsey was selected with the next pick by the Jaguars.

Seven years later, though, Dallas and Jones could have a chance to rectify that mistake and get Ramsey, albeit with far less time on their hands than they would’ve had if they drafted him, onto America’s Team.

The Cowboys are projected $7 million over the 2023 salary cap right now but seemingly can get under that number with relative ease — restructuring Demarcus Lawrence, Tyron Smith and Michael Gallup would free up $22.8 million alone. Moreover, if they can designate Elliott as a post-June 1, that would free up another roughly $11 million.

Subsequently, for a team that clearly lacked a great option opposite of Trevon Diggs down the stretch after Anthony Brown went down would immediately be able to trade for a bonafide No. 1 and a great compliment to Diggs. It would solidify the secondary in a major way and, perhaps, be a move to help the Cowboys finally get over the playoff hump.
