AJ Brown trying to force the Eagles’ hand with Jalen Hurts

AJ Brown made his stance very clear when asked about a Jalen Hurts extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. 

Outside of the result of Super Bowl LVII, the Philadelphia Eagles had a magical season, led by the likes of AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts.

So, it was no surprise when Brown said what he had to say regarding the future of him and Hurts in Philadelphia, particularly regarding the contract situation for Hurts.

In essence, if the Eagles don’t pay Hurts, then Brown will leave and go wherever his quarterback goes. That level of respect from someone who just signed with them in the offseason following a trade on draft day shows how committed Brown is to a quarterback who is utilizing his strengths.

That’s not to say Tennessee didn’t do all of that, but clearly, the Music City doesn’t have the same bravado for Brown compared to the City of Brotherly Love, see the game between the Eagles and Titans this past season for further confirmation.

AJ Brown made it clear that the Eagles have to pay Jalen Hurts or risk losing them both.

General Manager Howie Roseman is well aware of how hard it is to find quarterbacks, and retaining them in this day and age comes with a hefty price tag. As such, you can expect him to find a deal to get it done.

Having said that, the game is still about the line of scrimmage, as Super Bowl LVII showcased. The Eagles could not get any pressure on Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs walked away with another Lombardi, along with giving Travis Kelce bragging rights over Jason Kelce for the foreseeable future. You can expect Roseman to address those issues in the offseason.

That said, Hurts has to be on his mind. The quarterback was a legitimate candidate for league MVP honors this past season and got the Eagles to the big show, albeit against inferior competition. Nevertheless, he is a respected figure in the locker room, and his toughness has won over the city.

Pay him, or lose him and his biggest cheerleader in the process. It’s quite simple. The NFL is a ruthless business, but some decisions are more important than others. In this case, it is retaining a quarterback and securing him and a weapon in the passing game for the long haul.
