3 galaxy brain trades the Patriots would love to make this offseason

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are looking to make major moves after missing the playoffs this season. The right moves could save the end of Bill Belichick’s career.

This clearly wasn’t a banner year for the New England Patriots. It was interesting to see the Patriots and Tom Brady bottom out at the same time. Brady retired because of his struggles this season, but the Patriots can’t retire. They do need to change the very fabric of the roster.

The Patriots are looking at a few free agents, including Jakobi Meyers. This is a team that very rarely ever signs its own free agents. So, expect them to need to replace those players.

The Patriots have a phenomenal defense, possibly one of the best in the league. However, the offense leaves a ton to be desired. This roster can be very good. However, there must be upgrades at multiple positions. The one position with the most question marks is the most important position. Can the Patriots make a move to replace Mac Jones?

3. The Patriots could trade for Lamar Jackson

Mac Jones

3rd-round pick

The Patriots make a ton of sense for Lamar Jackson. They already run a run-heavy offense, similar to what Greg Roman was running when Lamar Jackson was the MVP. Rhamodre Stevenson is going to be a really good running back for a long time. Jackson could extend his career by putting his faith in a great coaching staff and a team that’s 100 percent behind him.

Why would the Ravens trade Jackson? Well, this negotiation has always been full of tension. The Patriots could come in and pay Jackson. Sure, this is a team that refused to pay Brady. Will they make a move to pay Jackson?

Belichick has to know what he’s looking at. There aren’t many great quarterbacks available on the market. The Packers won’t want Mac Jones with Jordan Love on the roster. Derek Carr won’t move the needle. Could a Jimmy Garoppolo return make sense? Nothing makes as much sense as trading for Jackson. The Ravens would be more likely to look at Jones as a true asset, and they may be motivated to move Jackson. It will cost a ton in salary, but it makes sense on too many fronts.
