Quarterback is king in the modern NFL. Here are the top five free agents who could hit the market this offseason at the game’s most important position.

There’s nothing more important for a modern-day NFL front than finding the right quarterback. The majority of successful teams fill the position via the draft. Less fortunate teams are forced to venture into free agency to find a leader for their respective offenses.

Of course, signing a quarterback in free agency generally requires a lot of cash. The top five players in this market will all command hefty contracts. In particular, the top four players on this list should be looking for deals that will pay them over $30 million per season on the low end.

The first signal-caller on the list could be had for a significantly smaller investment. That could cause a number of teams to jump into the mix for his signature.

5. Jacoby Brissett

Brissett doesn’t have the upside as anything more than an average starter, but he also has a high floor as a quarterback who can fit in multiple offensive schemes. He didn’t light the world on fire for the Browns last year, but his PFF grade of 82.6 illustrates just how competent he was in Cleveland.

Teams looking for a bridge quarterback who can help mentor a mobile, rookie quarterback should be willing to give Brissett a multi-year deal to help ease their young player’s transition to life in the NFL. He represents a great balance of giving the current roster a chance to win while also giving a rookie space to breathe.

The idea of packaging Brissett with a raw prospect like Anthony Richardson or even Will Levis should appeal to several General Managers looking to draft quarterbacks in the top 10. Don’t be surprised if Brissett ends up with a multi-year deal paying him over $10 million per season in guaranteed money.
