Bryce Young height: Combine numbers are in for Alabama QB

Bryce Young enters the NFL Draft a bit undersized, but this should not matter for Alabama star.

Even if Bryce Young does not measure up physically, that should not be an issue for the former Alabama superstar quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner.

Young projects as a top-four pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has all the intangibles a team would want out of a franchise quarterback. The only issue is he will be one of the smallest signal-callers in the sport as soon as he is drafted. Young may be taller than Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, but he may be as slender as former Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins.

Young measured in at 5-foot-10 and an eighth of an inch at the NFL combine, as well as weighing in at 204 pounds.

While his arm length came out to 30 and a half inches, his hand size is a solid 9 and three-quarters inches.

He may not be able to improve his height, but he can put on some weight if need be. Most importantly, he does not have tiny Burger King Hands, so that is probably the biggest deal of all the measurables. Young is probably going to a team that plays in a southern climate or inside of a dome anyway, but having hands of that size is indicative of not having major ball security issues.

Now that we know Young’s numbers, let’s discuss if they will impact his NFL Draft stock or not.

Surely, there will be teams who will be turned off by Young’s height. Although there have been shorter quarterbacks who have had success in the league, NFL teams typically want a guy who is around 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. This makes him tall enough to see over his 6-foot-7 offensive linemen, as well as having enough “padding”, if you will, to sustain the blows he will take.

Frankly, I think we are making way too big of a deal about Young’s height, or lack thereof. He is not for everyone, but he will be right for someone. More importantly, there are three teams picking inside of the top eight who would love to have him be the face of their franchise going forward: The Houston Texans (No. 2), the Indianapolis Colts (No. 4) and the Las Vegas Raiders (No. 8).

Although the Carolina Panthers are probably not a fit for him for Frank Reich height reasons, they are picking at No. 9. They may covet taller players like Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud or Kentucky’s Will Levis. Regardless, whoever ends up passing on Young will probably pay a price for it, especially Houston if he were to somehow slip to No. 4 and be drafted by an in-division rival with the Colts.

For all intents and purposes, it would be absolutely shocking if Young is not playing for the Texans.
