Packers mock draft: First-round pick will enrage Aaron Rodgers
How can NFL pundits most annoy and incense Aaron Rodgers this offseason? Mocking this player to the Packers in the first round is a good start.
At this point, we have to believe every pundit is just out to get under Aaron Rodgers’ skin. It’s only fair after Rodgers made the Green Bay Packers along with the rest of the NFL community wait on bended knee for his highly anticipated announcement on his future — think of it as karmic payback.
A week ago, a mock had the Packers taking wideout Jordan Addison to tick off Rodgers. Now, Will Brinson’s 2023 mock has Green Bay going after another young offensive weapon.
Enter Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid.
Brian Gutekunst has focused on big school defensive players in the first round (he LOVES Georgia guys, his last three picks have been from Kirby Smart’s rosters) but after trading Aaron Rodgers and moving to Jordan Love, it would make a lot of sense to get his guy another weapon.
Kincaid projects to be an immediate starter at the position, and his most similar comparison is arguably Denver Broncos’ Greg Dulcich. Having lost Robert Tonyan earlier in free agency, the Packers do have a pressing need at tight end and could break away from their usual tradition of taking defenders in the first round to secure a potential cornerstone offensive player.
Packers can ruffle Aaron Rodgers’ feathers by drafting TE Dalton Kincaid
With the draft less than a month away, Aaron Rodgers is still a Packer at the time of this writing. It would be something else if the Packers-Jets trade talks implode and Rodgers just stays in Green Bay, but that’s just one very unlikely far away scenario in the multiverse of never-ending possibilities. (Food for thought, would Rodgers still play football if he had hotdog fingers?)
Getting Jordan Love a flashy new tight end would set him up for success in 2023, and Love can start to build chemistry with his own weapons rather than just Rodgers’ “friends,” most of whom have followed or are planning to follow Rodgers to New York, anyway.
Last year’s rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs should grow in their second season and help Love lead a strong passing attack; adding another target like Kincaid would complete the trident and just give Love another reason to succeed.
Because that’s what 2023 is all about: facilitating Love’s success. Rodgers has no more say in the Packers’ future, and as big a blow that may be to his ego, he’s not the face of the franchise anymore. Love is.
