Colts in danger of division rival leaping over them to draft a QB
The Indianapolis Colts are now in danger of watching a division rival leap ahead of them in the NFL Draft to potentially select a quarterback.
The Indianapolis Colts are in desperate need for a quarterback heading into the 2023 season.
They tried to bring in veteran quarterbacks ever since Andrew Luck retired, but it hasn’t panned out for them. The team said that they would liked to explore finding one in the NFL Draft.
The thing is, the Carolina Panthers traded up to the No. 1 spot in the NFL Draft, and will have their choice of quarterbacks. Then there’s the Houston Texans, who won’t be moving down from the No. 2 spot, as they need a signal caller as well.
So, the Colts hold the No. 4 pick, but is staying put a real dangerous decision for them?
Well, if the latest buzz is anything to go by, then yes, it is.
On a recent episode of the “Move the Sticks Podcast,” NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah says that the Tennessee Titans are a team to keep an eye on regarding a potential move up to No. 3, which is currently held by the Arizona Cardinals.
Titans eyeing a move up to acquire the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft
“Can I give you the team that I have been told to keep an eye on that’s exploring this and looking into this?” Jeremiah said. “Again, this is just people around the league who said do not sleep on Numero 11. The Tennessee Titans. The two teams to keep an eye on with the trade-ups were the Raiders and the Titans.”
Buck Reising of A to Z Sports backed Jeremiah’s report as to the Titans’ interest.
Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort previously spent time in the Titans organization the past three years as their director of pro personnel. Ossenfort had said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he is open to trading the No. 3 pick. So, that is a spot that could be used to take a quarterback ahead of the Colts.
The Titans did select a quarterback last year in Malik Willis to sit behind Ryan Tannehill, but that was the previous regime led by general manager Jon Robinson. Entering to replace him is Ran Carthon, who was the San Francisco 49ers’ director of player personnel the previous two seasons. So with a new regime, they want to bring in their own players.
Could a move up to No. 3 be a quarterback? Could it be for one of the top defensive players like Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson Jr.? We won’t know until the NFL Draft arrives on Apr. 27.
If the Colts really want to take a quarterback in the first round and don’t want to move up in the first-round, they will be sweating through the first three picks, especially if the Cardinals trade the No. 3 pick.
