Packers rumors: Green Bay target Aaron Rodgers replacement who isn’t Jordan Love

The Green Bay Packers have yet to trade quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, and the team is looking to stack its depth chart in the NFL Draft.

The NFL world is still waiting on a resolution on the Green Bay Packers/Aaron Rodgers front. Last month, Rodgers announced that after going into his “darkness retreat,” he intends to play for the New York Jets. Now, it’s a matter of when the Packers and Jets will agree to terms on a new contract.

If Rodgers is traded, it’s pretty clear that Jordan Love will be the new starting signal caller. After all, they did trade up to select him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. But are the Packers done on the quarterback market this offseason?

As ESPN NFL Draft analyst points out, the Packers are set to host Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker for a visit this week.

Packers set to host Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker for visit

This past college football season, Hooker was one of the top quarterbacks in the entire nation. He helped lead the Volunteers to their most successful season in quite some time, and he was a legitimate Heisman Trophy favorite. In 11 games, Hooker threw for 3,135 yards, 27 touchdowns and two interceptions, all the while completing 69.6-percent of his passes.

But, in a game against South Carolina, Hooker suffered a torn ACL, which effectively ended his impressive campaign. He missed Tennessee’s season-finale against Vanderbilt, and the Orange Bowl, which saw them defeat Clemson 31-14.

Hooker said he expects to be cleared in time for training camp with his new team, whoever that may be. Given the recent buzz, as Miller points out, he could get drafted in the first-round. That is, of course, all dependent on which team really wants him. Not only is he coming off of a torn ACL, but he is 25-years-old. But, when he was healthy this past year, he was really good.

This is not to say that the Packers are going to draft Hooker. However, they are going to meet with him just a couple weeks out of the NFL Draft, which takes place Apr. 27-29.
