Flo Milli Is Here to Help You Find a Coachella Outfit

The “Conceited” rapper has curated an edit of Y2K-inspired pieces on the platform, which is available to shop starting today. The launch is part of a new six-month partnership between Depop, the fashion resale platform beloved by Gen Z and vintage fans alike, and American Express to promote circular fashion all festival season long. Flo Milli’s edit is the first in the collab, but more to-be-revealed artists will curate their own in the coming months.

Riding the wave of the aughts revival, Flo Milli’s picks range from baby tees to embellished denim to platform sandals, in the vein of her own “Y2K vintage party”-esque personal style. Taking a few minutes in the middle of her spa day, Flo Milli walked ELLE.com through her Depop x AmEx edit, her style icons, and what to expect from her first-ever Coachella performance.

What was your inspiration behind the collection? Were there certain vibes, looks, and pieces you wanted to include? What was it like putting it all together?

I was so excited to be featured with American Express and Depop, so I wanted to make sure I made a statement, but honestly, I grew up around the 2000s, so Y2K is a big part of my style and what I’m used to seeing. So I definitely wanted to incorporate something like that. If you ever watched my “Conceited” video, the stuff that I had—the long nails with the bangles and the shorts with rhinestones—I always try to incorporate that in my performance shows and just everything I do. [I’m] pretty much a ghetto fabulous type of girl. And also my stylist, she always gets vintage pieces, and I really enjoy wearing sample vintage pieces a lot because I like exclusive things.

Are you a big Depop shopper? What do you usually look for?

Well, I’m not really a big one, but if I was to go on there, I would probably shop for everyday clothing, like crop tops, boyfriend jeans, stuff like that. That’s my street style that I really enjoy, because I pretty much live in the studio, so I like comfortable clothes that I can wear that are still kind of stylish and express who I am. So I really enjoy low-rise jeans, cargo pants, and crop tops. I love that stuff.

Who are some of your style icons?

I loved Aaliyah’s style growing up. I loved Beyoncé’s style. Britney Spears. Paris Hilton. I’m just thinking about stuff that I would go look up from older VMA red carpet shows. I would’ve loved to be in that era.

What about Coachella? Have you thought about what you’re wearing onstage yet?

Yes. I’m actually doing a collab with Pucci, so they made some custom outfits that I’ll be the first [to wear]. So I’m excited for that. I love Pucci, so I was really, really, really excited when I found out.

That’s really cool. It feels like it’ll be a lot of prints, a lot of colors.

Yeah, they definitely went crazy with the prints, so I’ll be wearing that to pretty much everything. The shows, the parties, everything. So just look out for me to be colorful.

What can you tease about your first Coachella performance? What can we expect?

You can definitely expect a surprise. You can expect for me to put on a great show. I just can’t wait. I’m going to have so much energy and I might snippet some new music. I’m still thinking about that, but you can probably expect that too. And a special guest.

We’ll be on the lookout. Is there anybody that you’re excited to see yourself?

There are so many people I want to see. Isn’t Frank Ocean performing? I definitely want to see him. I never saw him in a real live performance. I want to see Metro [Boomin] and I want to see my peers. I know the girls are going to be there—Doechii and Latto I can’t wait to see, because I know that it’s their first time performing too, so I’m excited for them.

Speaking of your peers, you’ve tapped a few other rising female rappers for some of your remixes lately, like Lola Brooke and Monaleo. Tell me a little bit about how you chose to feature them in your remixes.

I’ll start with Monaleo—that was really a genuine friendship. I can at least say we actually are friends and it kind of came about naturally, but I am a girl’s girl by heart too, maybe because I grew up around all women. So it’s pretty easy for me to basically have the girls come with me and embrace them. It’s not hard for me to do that. I really enjoy giving all those girls their flowers because I know how hard it can be being an artist in today’s age, and with all the ways people try to make the girls compete and stuff, it’s like, I’m here to stop that. But yeah, I met most of them online. I met Maiya [The Don] online, LoLa [Monroe] online, and pretty much everybody, but we all know each other in real life.

I love that energy. We need more of that.

And plus, the girls are grinding right now. They’re going crazy. All of them totally have their own specific style and thing about them that makes it very unique. So I love embracing that, and I just think they should be praised for it.

Totally. One thing that I love about your music is your confidence in every single song, like “Conceited,” “19,” “In the Party.” Do you bring that confidence when it comes to your style too?

Yeah, I think styling and what you wear is very much tied to your expression. So I think it also ties into your personality or confidence, and I try to make sure that I exude that. And I feel like it kind of happens naturally. I remember being in high school and putting outfits together that were crazy and weird, but still kind of cool. I just express myself [and] how I’m feeling with what I’m wearing.

Can you tease anything about new music in the coming months?

Oh yes. Y’all can definitely expect something very soon. Very soon. I’ve been in crazy mode for the past couple months, so I’m ready. My album is on the way, I’ll just say that.
