Joe Douglas tells Jets fans Aaron Rodgers is coming

During an appearance at a WFAN NY event, New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas told fans that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is “gonna be here.”

The New York Jets have long-needed an answer at quarterback, and they appear to have it in the form of Aaron Rodgers.

Entering the offseason with uncertainty about whether he would play for the Packers in 2023, go to a new team, or retire altogether, Rodgers revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that he intends to play for the Jets in 2023. The Jets have the commitment from Rodgers, now they just have to negotiate a trade with the Green Bay Packers, and those talks have gone on for a few weeks.

For Jets fans fearing that a deal won’t come to fruition, general manager Joe Douglas is here to ease your mind.

While making an appearance at a WFAN NY event hosted by the Boomer and Gio show, Douglas was asked by former Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason if Rodgers is coming to the Jets. Douglas responded, saying “he’s gonna be here,” which caused fans in attendance to erupt in cheers.

And with those comments, the fanbase is excited. As for the rest of the NFL world, they continue to debate whether the Jets or Packers hold the leverage in trade negotiations.

There was a report from Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson that the Jets and Packers were getting closer to a deal, with New York sending their 2023 second round pick and their 2024 second-rounder that could become a first-rounder. But, the Jets were looking for some draft pick compensation in 2025 if Rodgers were to retire after the 2023 season, per Robinson.

On Friday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler made an appearance on SportsCenter and said a Rodgers trade “remains pretty much done” and that it could be done by the NFL Draft, which begins on Apr. 27.

“They’re close, just they have some of those draft compensation considerations that they have to shake out,” said Fowler, h/t Bleacher Report. “Most people I talked to around the league believe closer to the draft, maybe even on day one, when teams are getting on the clock pretty soon that this will shake out. But I’m told the Jets have been planning with their draft prep to have their No. 13 overall pick. That’s not a major consideration to have to give up to the Packers in a trade.”

Jets and Packeers fans alike are waiting for the deal to be finalized. Douglas feels confident that Rodgers will be donning a Gang Green uniform for the 2023 season.
