Bills finally trying to get Stefon Diggs, Josh Allen some help
The Bills are taking a look at a top wideout prospect to potentially pair with the already dominant duo of Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs.
The Buffalo Bills boast one of the league’s best quarterback and wide receiver duos in Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, yet they haven’t enjoyed nearly as much success as their AFC rivals.
Bengals’ Joe “Brrr” iced them out this past postseason in the Bills’ disappointing early exit in the divisional round. The year before that, the Chiefs’ mighty Mahomes (and a lucky coin flip) caused the Bills to lose out on a ticket to the Super Bowl.
The Bills will yet again field a talented offense in Allen, Diggs, Gabe Davis, and Dawson Knox in 2023, but one wouldn’t question them if they wanted to add an extra weapon or two just for insurance.
As it turns out, Buffalo is keeping an eye on top wideout prospect Jalin Hyatt and is even hosting the Tennessee star for a visit on Monday.
Hyatt has been mocked to a plethora of different teams this offseason with most analysts believing he’s first-round material.
Bills could draft a formidable offensive weapon in Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt
With the 27th overall pick, Buffalo also has to address position needs in the trenches and in defense, yet taking a wide receiver early could be a sneaky good investment.
Star target Stefon Diggs has flourished under Allen’s arm for the last three years but has also noticeably been blanketed by defenders every time he steps onto the field. It’s why Gabe Davis and then-wideout Isaiah McKenzie were able to break out in games last seasons, although their performances were largely inconsistent. Anyone who picked up Davis in fantasy football knew the pain.
Rather than suffer through the hot-and-cold phases of aging receivers, the Bills can add Hyatt to take a bit of pressure away from Diggs and also help the youngster grow into his own as a dangerous threat.
It should be noted that Davis is set to enter free agency after the 2023 season; picking a WR2 now in the draft would help the Bills in the short term and, if Hyatt can learn how to thrive in the pass-happy scheme, the long term, too.
Sick and tired of watching their AFC rivals send them home, Buffalo had to learn the hard way that Allen and Diggs cannot, in fact, do it all. Hyatt could be the missing puzzle piece to this offense to get the team out of its rut and into the Super Bowl in 2023.
