What We Know So Far About The Marvels
The long-awaited Women of Marvel team-up that Avengers: Endgame only teased to audiences (or pandered to them, depending on whom you ask) has finally arrived in the form of an otherwise unlikely trio: Monica Rambeau, Carol Danvers, and Kamala Khan. The three superheroines front the upcoming film The Marvels, a notable project for the Marvel mega-franchise in part thanks to its almost exclusively female leading cast. Teyonah Parris, Brie Larson, and Iman Vellani each return to their roles from WandaVision, Captain Marvel (and other films), and Ms. Marvel, respectively, creating a personality and power clash that might inject Marvel’s Phase Five with some much-needed juice.
As with all things Marvel, exact plot details are about as precious as the Infinity Stones (which is to say, closely guarded but far from impossible to obtain). Here’s what we know so far.
What is The Marvels about?
The sequel to Captain Marvel and the next film in Marvel’s sprawling Cinematic Universe follows S.A.B.E.R astronaut Monica Rambeau (Parris), who—after wrapping up her business with Scarlet Witch back in WandaVision—is in space, looking into an unusual wormhole. This wormhole has an apparently suspicious link to the Kree, a blue-skinned alien invader race totally different from the other major blue-skinned alien race in cinema.
While investigating this wormhole, Rambeau absorbs an inexplicable energy that links her to fellow do-gooders Kamala Khan and Carol Danvers, forcing them to swap physical spaces whenever they use their powers. The Marvels will follow their subsequent team-up (though don’t dare call it that!) as they figure out what (or who) did this to them.
Who is in The Marvels cast?
Those joining Parris, Larson, and Vellani include:
- Samuel L. Jackson, returning as former S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury
- Zawe Ashton, as Dar-Benn, a Kree who wields a hammer used by the Accusers, a.k.a the Kree Empire’s military group. (You might recall a certain Kree named “Ronan the Accuser,” played by Lee Pace in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1.)
- Mohan Kapur, reprising his Ms. Marvel role as Kamala’s father, Yusuf
- Zenobia Shroff, reprising her role as Kamala’s mother, Muneeba
- Saagar Shaikh, reprising his role as Kamala’s brother, Aamir
- Park Seo-jun
