OBJ’s financial future could be even brighter than his Ravens contract

After signing a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. got even more great news later in the week.

This past week, Odell Beckham Jr’s free agency journey came to an end. After attempting to join a team late in the 2022 season and impressing teams in an offseason workout this past month, Beckham is now a member of the Baltimore Ravens. Just one day before a reported visit to the New York Jets, Beckham agreed to terms on a one-year, $15 million deal with the Ravens, which can actually grow to $18 million total. Beckham was officially introduced to the team on Thursday.

As it turns out, Beckham got even more great news.

An Oregon judge recently denied a request by Nike to dismiss Beckham’s lawsuit against the company over breach of contract claims, via TMZ Sports. This means that the lawsuit will be allowed to move forward.

Last November, Beckham announced that he was suing “to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises.”

Beckham accused Nike of costing him money by “suppressing shoe sales that would’ve triggered an automatic lucrative contract extension,” per TMZ Sports. Not just that, but Beckham also accused Nike of withholding money he was promised due to glove and footwear violations. Beckham alleges Nike cost him $20 million.

As mentioned earlier, Beckham agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Ravens, where he earned a $13.835 million signing bonus and a $1.165 million base salary. As for his incentives, he can earn $1 million if he recorded 60-or-more reception or holds the team lead, $1 million if he has 1,000 receiving yards or the team lead, and $1 million if he records nine touchdown receptions, per Spotrac.

Beckham will be playing for the first time since Super Bowl 56, where he tore his ACL in the first half. He returns to the AFC North, this time as a member of the Ravens, seemingly catching passes from quarterback Lamar Jackson.

As for his Nike lawsuit, the footwear and apparel company’s attempt to dismiss the case has failed.
