The Packers are sure to trade Aaron Rodgers by the 2023 NFL Draft, but what if it’s for Trey Lance? A new 7-round NFL mock draft explores the results.

For months and months now, we’ve been waiting for the Green Bay Packers to trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets and then go from there. With the 2023 NFL Draft now just a week away, though, the clock feels like it’s definitely ticking on that deal getting done.

However, as the draft approaches, there are now reports that the San Francisco 49ers could be willing to deal former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance. And the Packers have picked up some steam as a potential partner for such a trade, especially given some light rumblings that the 49ers could be a spoiler party to come in and try to make a trade for Rodgers.

In the immortal words of Lloyd Christmas, “so you’re telling me there’s a chance” that we could get an Aaron Rodgers trade for Trey Lance? Yes, it seems that might be the case.

So what does that mean for Green Bay in the 2023 draft if that happens? Let’s explore the trade and then the 7-round Packers NFL mock draft to see how things shake out if this monster blockbuster trade were to go down.

So let’s get down to the deal itself. What we’ve heard about the long-standing Aaron Rodgers trade involving the Jets is that the Packers would like to get a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 first-round pick in return for the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

With Trey Lance being involved, though, that does change the calculus somewhat. If the 49ers are indeed willing to part with the former No. 3 pick, then they have little leverage to try and get great value in a trade. However, they can offer less in the way of 2023 draft picks, which is good considering that they don’t pick until the end of the third round.

More importantly, San Francisco has showed a distinct willingness to be aggressive in terms of dealing future picks, so they could acquiesce the Packers’ desire to get a 2024 first-rounder, especially because the addition of Rodgers to this roster would likely make that a pick near the end of Day 1.

Really, this gives everyone what they want. Green Bay loads up on picks, the 49ers get to make a run with Rodgers, the Packers have two young quarterbacks competition to fill the void under center, and now the Pack can start to build for the future. So now let’s get into Round 1 of this 2023 NFL mock draft for Green Bay.
