2023 NFL Draft tight ends odds: Michael Mayer favorite to go first, but Dalton Kincaid and Darnell Washington loom

This has been projected as one of the best tight end classes in recent history, but who will go first in the 2023 NFL Draft?

There are plenty of tight ends worthy of going in the first round this season, including Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer, Utah’s Dalton Kincaid, and Georgia’s Darnell Washington. Mayer is the betting favorite, but considering the range for these players starts in the middle of the first round, different teams can value different players.

Mayer is the clean prospect, he can block and catch well, but can’t block as well as Washington and can’t catch as well as Kincaid. However, Kincaid has dealt with back issues during the pre-draft process and could be a medical red flag even though he was cleared ahead of the draft. Kincaid was the favorite as of two weeks ago, but it may seem that this lingering injury may hurt his draft stock, per oddsmakers.

Meanwhile, Washington is a freakish prospects with insane measurements and tools that have drawn comparisons to future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski. While he is seen as a long shot in the betting market to be selected before Mayer and Kincaid, it only takes one team to fall in love with this rare of a prospect.

How many tight ends will be drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft?

For what it’s worth, despite a ton of line movement, it appears unlikely that all three of these prospects will make the first round. As of this writing, there’s more than a 73% chance that under 2.5 tight ends get selected in the first round.
