Adele’s Final Carpool Karaoke With James Corden May Actually Make You Cry

Adele started the last carpool karaoke episode with a bang—literally, by banging cymbals to wake James Corden up and take him to work. But this is far from the typical installment of the viral Late Late Show series that helped put Corden’s late-night show on the internet’s radar. Throughout the 21-minute episode, Corden and Adele sang a few of her hit songs and also reflected on the segment’s history and Corden’s eight-year run on the Late Late Show itself.

Tune in for Adele and Corden singing, of course—namely “Rolling in the Deep,” “Love Is a Game,” and “I Drink Wine.” Of the last song, Adele revealed that a six-hour conversation with Corden inspired it, and the two friends did get teary reflecting on the track. Corden had been discussing his own troubles with Adele, who said it particularly moved her because, during the times she didn’t really feel like an adult, “You were always an adult to me.”

“Every time I sing this song in Vegas, I think of you,” she told him.

In a lighter moment, Adele expressed how she really feels about potentially achieving EGOT status. Adele has already won an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Grammy at this point.

Her winning a Tony likely won’t happen because “I f*cking hate musicals,” and “I also think the EGO suits me better,” she quipped before her and Corden sang a rousing rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Adele’s powerhouse vocals may just blow you away.

But it’s the end of the episode that will get you emotional, as Adele and Corden were both crying while saying goodbye. Corden is moving back to the U.K. while Adele is staying in Los Angeles.

“You’re one of my best friends in the whole world,” she told him, in tears. The exchange is a deeply real, human moment, especially during what has always been a more lighthearted TV series. It doubles as a rare look into the pair’s private lives and the power of friendship. Watch the entire episode below; it’s worth taking the 20 minutes to experience it in full:
