Aaron Rodgers has incredibly lame excuse for ignoring Packers call
At his New York Jets press conference, Aaron Rodgers had a reason for ignoring the Green Bay Packers calls, but it wasn’t a good one.
Aaron Rodgers officially became a New York Jet on Wednesday afternoon, as the trade became official and his plane landed in New Jersey. With the Jets, Rodgers expectations are clear — he views New York as a Super Bowl contender.
Green Bay, of course, failed to reach those same expectations last season. It’s why they are moving forward with Jordan Love, and emphasized draft capital in their trade with the Jets.
Upon his departure, Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst did mention that he had failed to reach Rodgers at his home, and hadn’t spoken to him for months. It’ll likely become a regret on both sides.
“I have so much respect for Aaron, not only the person but the player that he is,” Gutekunst said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “There’s so much gratitude in what he’s done for this organization. Again, it would’ve been nice to have those conversations, but at the same time, over the last few years, I kind of understood that they may not happen. So it’s different. It’ll probably hit me a little bit at some other juncture when I don’t have a lot on my plate.”
Aaron Rodgers on why he ignored Packers calls
As it turns out, the Packers did try to get in contact with Rodgers to work out some sort of solution on the trade front. When asked about it on Wednesday, Rodgers merely shrugged it off with a joke of sorts.
“People who know me, I’m fortunate to live in a beautiful house. The only downside is I have very limited cell service. If you want to get ahold of me, I need to see your face. You have to FaceTime me,” Rodgers said.
Yeah, we’re not buying it.
It’s clear that there’s some animosity between Rodgers and the Packers at this juncture. Those wounds will likely heal with time…but for now it’s best to just let it be.
