Aaron Rodgers’ Twitter activity could mean a long offseason for Zach Wilson

Let’s just say that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was aware of new teammate Zach Wilson’s viral comments from earlier this offseason.

After 40 days of waiting, Aaron Rodgers is finally a member of the New York Jets. After announcing his intent to play for the Jets, they and the Green Bay Packers entered lengthy trade negotiations that were seemingly going nowhere.  But after trading a variety of draft picks, Rodgers is now the Jets quarterback, and will look to lead the team to their second Super Bowl title.

Earlier this year, Jets quarterback and 2021 second-overall pick Zach Wilson commented on the potential of the team bringing in a proven veteran to lead the team in 2023. Wilson said “I’m going to make that dude’s life hell in practice every day.”

If you were wondering if Rodgers was aware of Wilson’s comments, the answer is seemingly yes, based on his likes on Twitter.

Let’s be real here, there is not going to be a competition this offseason. Rather, it will be Rodgers taking over the reins as the Jets’ QB1.

There is no bad blood between the two, as they do have a relationship with one another. Wilson idolized Rodgers when preparing to be an NFL quarterback. The two met with one another before the 2021 NFL Draft and then when the Jets and Packers held joint training camp practices.

With Rodgers entering the fray, Wilson will be in a backup role, where he will seemingly learn from the four-time NFL MVP. In fact, when speaking to the media on Tuesday, Jets general manager Joe Douglas said that Wilson sitting behind Rodgers is “a great thing.”

“I feel like this is going to be a great thing for Zach,” Douglas said, h/t NFL.com.  “Zach’s ceiling is unlimited. No one works harder, no one loves ball more than Zach Wilson, and him having the opportunity to really shadow and be with a first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback every day, every hour he’s in the building, that’s a great opportunity and a great experience.”

Rodgers will officially be introduced by the Jets on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. ET. From there, it will be the start of the Rodgers era in Florham Park, N.J.
