NFL rumors: Ravens eye another huge move after Lamar Jackson contract
After signing quarterback Lamar Jackson to a record-breaking contract extension on Thursday, it appears the Baltimore Ravens have another big move in mind.
The Baltimore Ravens are officially out of quarterback limbo, as they and Lamar Jackson have agreed to terms on a record-breaking contract extension. Jackson received a five-year, $260 million deal, with $185 million in total guarantees, making him the highest paid player in NFL history.
There was more good news for the Ravens, as Jackson’s new contract helped lessen his cap hit for the 2023 season. With that, it opens the door for Baltimore to potentially make a big move. But what could it be?
Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson tweeted out that due to the structure of Jackson’s contract, it “should open up a shot at facilitating a trade for Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins.”
Lamar Jackson’s contract opening door for Ravens to acquire DeAndre Hopkins?
The Ravens have already made a move to give Jackson a pass catcher in former New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on a one-year, $15 million contract. Why not bring in another big wideout in Hopkins?
Robinson followed up on that later on, saying that the Buffalo Bills are a team to keep an eye on, but if they strikeout on landing Hopkins, they could use the 27th overall pick on a wide receiver.
Earlier this week, former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show,” that there is a chance that Hopkins gets traded this week.
Hopkins has had difficulty staying on the football field the past two seasons. The five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver played in just 19 games, missing time due to injuries and a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Through nine games last season, Hopkins caught 64 passes for 717 yards and three touchdowns on 96 targets.
If Hopkins can play a full season, he is a difference-maker. Potentially adding him alongside Beckham as options downfield for Jackson? That could be huge for the Ravens. For now, we wait to see if a deal gets done.
