Why Miley Cyrus Skipped the 2023 Met Gala
After skipping the last two Met Galas, Miley Cyrus unfortunately didn’t end her absentee streak. The singer opted not to attend tonight’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line in Beauty” Met Gala, despite rumors she was confirmed to attend. She did not post her whereabouts on social media, keeping her day’s activities private—as Cyrus does most days now, as she is rarely photographed by paparazzi.
Cyrus was last photographed at an event in Beverly Hills on April 23 though, newly brunette:
Despite Cyrus not walking the carpet, 2023 has been one of her biggest years in her career. Cyrus of course has been celebrating her single “Flowers” topping charts for 12 weeks, along with the March 10 release of her album Endless Summer Vacation.
During Flowers’ third week at #1, Cyrus reflected on the moment and breakout success of the song: “As magical as this moment feels I know it doesn’t happen by chance,” she shared. “This song & it’s success represents the power of YOU! This is your moment & it’s my honor to be the messenger. It’s fun to dance like nobody is watching but it’s a lot better when you all are dancing with me. I love you. Gratitude, Miley.”
Cyrus also acknowledged during her Backyard Sessions interview for the album that yes, amid rumors that Cyrus explored her breakup with her ex-husband Liam Hemworth on the album (and in “Flowers”), there was some real-life inspiration and little jabs taken in the tracks.
“There’s subtle shade,” she said of the album, via Bustle. “There’s, you know, honesty and truth, and there’s some wisdom, and there’s some humor. And there’s some heaviness and depth.”
