Jenna Ortega Wore a Wednesday-Inspired Thom Browne Dress at the 2023 Met Gala

In a significant departure from her vibrant pink Valentino look last year, Jenna Ortega has arrived on tonight’s Met Gala red carpet in a prep school-meets-Wednesday-inspired Thom Browne corset dress. It’s a fitting follow-up to her so-called goth glam aesthetic, for which the Scream actress has made black the new…well, Valentino pink.

“I’ve always respected goth culture,” Ortega told Vogue in April. “I’ve always had a darker sense of humor, but I never felt like I was able to express that. Now I feel like I can embrace those qualities in myself.”

Ortega paired the black corset gown with calf-high stockings, chunky platform Oxford heels, and Marli New York diamond drop earrings set to match the strands adorning her skirt and bodice. She wore her hair in a half up-do, her curtain bangs styled to frame her face.

As natural as she might have looked at the Met tonight, the star shared in ELLE’s April issue that posing for red carpet photos is not, necessarily, when she feels the most comfortable. “All the other side stuff that comes with my job, sometimes it makes it feel like it’s almost not worth it,” she said. “I don’t want to feel like a walking billboard, which is a really, really scary feeling because then you feel less and less in control of your life. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people or know people who have succumbed to that pressure. I don’t want to belong to anyone or anything.”
