Josh Allen and the Bills just snatched up a last-minute Devin Singletary replacement

With the 2023 NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, the Buffalo Bills made a savvy free-agent signing by picking up Latavius Murray as Devin Singletary’s replacement for Josh Allen.

If the Buffalo Bills are ever going to get to a Super Bowl with Josh Allen as their franchise quarterback, somebody else besides him is going to have to pound the rock.

While I understand that Allen is 6-and-a-half feet of pure NorCal beef meat running at you, even Adonises such as himself will break down before our very eyes. Despite playing in a harsh northern climate well-suited for pounding the rock prolifically, Sean McDermott has had a harder time with this than even C.J. Stroud with his S2 cognitive test. May we we present a real solution?

With Devin Singletary joining the Houston Texans this offseason, Buffalo made a wise choice in bringing in the ageless Latavius Murray into their backfield. Age is just a number with Murray, as he will be so incredibly helpful for Buffalo in short-yardage and goal-line situations. This move also probably indicates that former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is not coming over.

Buffalo is clearly the third best team in the AFC behind the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and the menacing Cincinnati Bengals, but this late addition could change that.

Buffalo Bills add Latavius Murray as super-late free agent pickup after NFL Draft

Not saying this upcoming season is creeping into if not now, when? territory for the Bills, but they are going to have to get to a Super Bowl at some point before Allen completely breaks down because they cannot run the ball without him. Patrick Mahomes has already won two and been to a third. Joe Burrow took the freaking Bengals to the Super Bowl in his second season out of LSU…

This signing isn’t about getting a 1,000-yard rusher, but rather taking some of the unnecessary punishing hits that Allen seems to be more than willing to fully embrace out of the equation. Over time, shoulders and knees will wear down. Let’s hope Allen gives Bills Mafia the championship parade it deserves before he hits his expiration date. This the only thing that really matters here.

Frankly, the Murray signing may not be the panacea to what has ailed the Bills in the postseason, but I applaud general manager Brandon Beane at least addressing the weakest part of their roster. Buffalo finally has a quarterback who can rival Jim Kelly’s awesome talent, but even he won the AFC four years in a row. The goal for the Bills is to get to and win a Super Bowl. Go make it happen!

The Bills are still one of the best teams across the league, but they are not quite yet the hunted.
