Peyton Manning reveals why Aaron Rodgers trade to Jets will work out

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning revealed why Aaron Rodgers will succeed with the New York Jets.

The New York Jets spent this offseason trying to bring in a proven veteran quarterback to help bring the team back to the playoffs. After over a month of negotiations, the Jets successfully acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for multiple draft picks. Rodgers arrived, received his brand new No. 8 jersey, and looks excited and happy to be playing for the Jets.

While that’s all well and good, Jets fans want to see some success once the 2023 NFL season starts.

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning explained why he thinks Rodgers to the Jets will work. The answer is — Nathaniel Hackett is the offensive coordinator and will use the same system that he did in Green Bay.

Peyton Manning thinks Aaron Rodgers on the Jets will work

“I’m excited for Aaron and the Jets,” said Manning, h/t Athlon Sports. “Let me tell you why I think it’s going to work: The fact that he has the same system that he ran in Green Bay with Hackett calling the plays, he’s going to be able to play so much faster. I mean, Pat, having to learn a new offense in your 18th, 19th year, it’s almost impossible, because you have to un-learn your old offense.”

After the 2022 season, the Jets opted to part ways with offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. With that, the search for a replacement began, and they decided to hire Hackett, the former Packers offensive coordinator (2019-21) and Denver Broncos head coach (2022). This happened well before the Rodgers trade went through. So, there was that talk of “they better hope they get Rodgers.” The Jets ultimately did, and Rodgers and Hackett are now reunited.

While Hackett was offensive coordinator for the Packers, Rodgers won back-to-back NFL MVP awards in 2020 and 2021. Not to mention that Rodgers had publicly praised Hackett both during their time together and during the 2022 season when he was Broncos head coach.

Now, the duo will be working alongside former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard and a new cast, headlined by reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, running back Breece Hall and former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman. Jets fans are hyped at what Rodgers can do for the team, especially since they are competing in a tough AFC East including the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.
