Dianna Agron Addresses Old Taylor Swift Dating Rumors: ‘That's Funny’
In 2012, Taylor Swift was close friends with Glee star Dianna Agron, close enough that Agron even got a shoutout in Swift’s liner notes for her hit song “22.” As Genius pointed out, when Swift released Red, she included a hidden message in the album booklet, listing off the names of some of her friends who celebrated her 22nd birthday with her: “Ashley [Avignone], Dianna [Agron], Claire [Kislinger], Selena [Gomez].”
Some fans wondered about the nature of Agron and Swift’s relationship and whether anything romantic secretly happened between them. Others had elaborate conspiracy theories and timelines, in a testament to the power of Swift’s lore and blind-item songs about her life. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Agron addressed the dating rumors tactfully—and with a little surprise that they existed at all.
Marlow Stern, who conducted the interview for Rolling Stone, first asked about Agron inspiring Swift’s song “22,” pointing out that she was in the liner notes. Agron demurred, “Me? Oh, if only! That’s more because of a friendship than being the inspiration for the song. But I would not be the person to ask about that. I cannot claim that!”
Stern followed up and asked, “How do you feel about the way that friendship was covered in the media? You two were shipped.”
“Shipped?” Agron asked.
“You two were made out by the media and some fans to be in a relationship,” he clarified.
“That is so interesting,” she said. “I… I mean, there have been many stories about my dating life that are so wildly untrue. That’s funny.” And that’s all she said about it.
Swift is now reported to be casually seeing Matty Healy. Agron was seen kissing Belgian painter Harold Ancart, whom E! reported was her boyfriend, in November.
