Everything We Know About 'Ginny & Georgia' Season 3

Despite all her best efforts, Georgia Miller’s in trouble again, and—as per usual—her daughter, Ginny, is left to deal with the consequences. After season 2 of Ginny & Georgia dropped in early January, the Gilmore Girls-adjacent crime dramedy shot to the top of the Netflix charts, leaving fans with a juicy, perplexing cliffhanger in the season’s final moments. Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry, who play the show’s titular mom-and-daughter pair, are clearly eager to explore how their characters will get out of this particular bind—but Netflix has yet to announce a future for the show. Here’s what little we know so far about a potential third season.

Has Ginny & Georgia been renewed for season 3?

Yes, in fact, Netflix has renewed the series for seasons 3 and 4. The streamer announced the news in a video with the cast on May 17.

There will also be a changing of the guard: showrunner Debra J. Fisher will hand over the reins to Sarah Glinski (a former Degrassi producer), who will helm the next two seasons, per The Wrap. Glinski’s appointment was made official before the writer’s strike.

Ginny & Georgia creator Sarah Lampert previously admitted to Deadline on January 5 that, “No, there’s been no talks with Netflix about season 3;” but she also added, “They’re very regimented about how they do things. So there’s very much a strategy in place where I think we’ll drop it, and then we have to wait to see how it does and if we’re going to see season 3, but I certainly hope we do because it’s going to be a wild ride.”

Co-showrunner Debra J. Fisher echoed this sentiment to TODAY.com, sharing, “Sarah and I obviously know—in [the event of] of a season 3—where we’re going. We spent all of season 1 breaking [the Millers] apart. And [the season 2 finale] is such a pivotal moment because it’s the first time when all three of them are on the same page and united, truly.”

The show’s creators have also shared in older interviews that they planned a story arc across four seasons, with a culmination at the end of the fourth. Let’s hope they get the chance to share it with us.

What would season 3 of Ginny & Georgia be about?

Season 2 ends with Georgia’s surprise arrest, taking place moments after she finally marries Mayor Paul Randolph at City Hall. At this point, Ginny and Marcus have split up once again, and there’s a complicated relationship festering between Georgia and Austin: Her son witnessed her smother a dying man with a pillow, eventually leading to her arrest.

In the same interview with Deadline, Lampert said she thinks the writers did a good job of setting up the stakes for season 3.

“I think we’ve set up a lot of really great possibilities in the sense that, just playing out hypotheticals, if Georgia is being charged with this crime, we have Zion, he’s Ginny’s dad, we have [Georgia’s ex] Gil in the picture now,” she said. “I think, previous to this, he had no chance at custody because he was a convicted felon, but who knows now? And we’ve got Paul, who’s the stepdad. We have so many golden possibilities for storytelling based on how rich these characters are, and based on how many surprises we want to throw into season 3 that I’m being coy about but we do have it planned out.”

Fisher also told The Wrap, “We know where season 3 begins and ends, and we know the endgame.”

Season 1 ended with the mother-daughter duo (and most of their other relationships) getting broken apart, and Fisher says season 2 was about bringing them together again to prepare them for the antics of season 3.

“This whole season we’ve been bringing Ginny and Georgia back together. And so Ginny, Georgia and Austin—the three of them—are now a unit,” she said. “They’ve gotten past the murdering. They’re together. Ginny’s so helpful in making this wedding happen, they’re united against Gil, and then again, at the very end we tear them apart.”

Who will return to Ginny & Georgia season 3?

Although the show has yet to be renewed, we can take a few guesses at who’s expected to appear in season 3. The whole Miller family are certain to take the spotlight, meaning Howey, Gentry, Diesel La Torraca’s Austin and Scott Porter’s Paul should return. Fans should also expect to see Alex Mallari Jr. as Detective Gabriel Cordova, Sara Waisglass as Maxine, Nathan Miller as Zion, and Felix Mallard as Marcus, among others.
