Former teammate hypes up a huge offseason addition for the Steelers

One of the best offensive linemen in the league gave the Pittsburgh Steelers a big thumbs-up for one of their free-agent signings.

When an NFL player is given an endorsement from a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, people tend to listen.

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce played alongside guard Isaac Seumalo for the past seven seasons. The club has reached the playoffs five of the last six years and two of those campaigns resulted in Super Bowl appearances.

That won’t be the case in 2023 as the latter inked a three-year, $24 million deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers (via Spotrac). The seven-year blocker is the 10th-ranked guard by Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

Jason Kelce praises Steelers addition of Isaac Seumalo

“I think he’s one of the most consistent players I’ve ever been around,” added the 12-year veteran earlier this week (via Grant Gordon of NFL.com). “So, we’re not going to replace Isaac, there’s going to be someone new in there, and they’re going to have their attributes that they’re going to excel with, and I’m looking forward to seeing who does a really good job with that.”

Back to the Steelers, who have spent this offseason upgrading their offensive front both via the draft and free agency. Along with Seumalo, general manager Omar Khan added versatile blocker Nate Herbig (Jets). He also moved up three spots in the first round in April and grabbed University of Georgia tackle Broderick Jones.

There’s no secret what Mike Tomlin’s team wants to do this upcoming season. Along with the additions to the front seven on defense, the Steelers want to ride Najee Harris and a power ground attack and make life easier for second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett. Pittsburgh hopes to keep its opposition from doing the same.

As Kelce stated, the Steelers have gotten a steal. It will be interesting to see how long Tomlin’s new-look offensive line takes to gel. There’s suddenly a lot of talent in the trenches in the Steel City.
