'I treated my friend to a £400 trip then she asked me for petrol money – I'm livid' – The Mirror

People are ‘lost for words’ after a woman’s cheeky friend requested that she cough up her share of the petrol money after she was treated to a lavish £400 getaway
A woman was taken aback after she took her friend on an all-expenses-paid getaway – only for her pal to request £20 in petrol money.
The mum claims that the lavish trip equated to approximately £400 per person, but her cheeky companion is requesting half the share of the travel costs.
After explaining the situation on popular forum site Mumsnet, people have admitted that they're "lost for words" over the "staggering" ask.
She explained: "To be put out that my friend is asking me to pay her money? I was given a very nice perk through work for myself and a plus one for an all-expenses-paid trip."
The woman went on: "It included a hotel, all food and drink and entertainment for the value of £400 per person and I chose to take a particular friend.
"My friend kindly drove us there and back (Bristol to London). She text me today asking me to transfer her half of the petrol money for the trip (£20).
Seeking advice, the woman wrote: "Am I being unreasonable to think if someone had done the same for me I would let the petrol money slide?"
Since sharing the thread online, the mum's post has raked in over 450 comments to date – where Mumsnet users assured the woman that she wasn't being unreasonable.
One person admitted: "Sometimes I get lost for words. This is one of those times."
A second said: "If this is true then I'm truly staggered. You are, of course, not being unreasonable."
Meanwhile, someone else suggested: "Say yes here's £20 and then send her an invoice for £200 for her share of your treat."
"Oh no, you are not being unreasonable. I am mortified for her!" A fourth penned.
They added: "I would text her 'are you seriously asking me for £20 petrol money towards the all-expenses paid trip I took you on??? Really???"
