12 California Stories That Made You Say 'What?!' In 2022 – Patch.com

CALIFORNIA — It was definitely a weird year in California. From insane animal encounters to sex noises on a plane, the Golden State was up to no good in 2022.
Here’s a look at some of California’s most unique headlines, ranging from a wedding elevator snafu to a pregnant sea lion’s golfing trip.
Everything always comes down to timing, and some Californians had some weird luck in 2022. In early December, four sets of twins were born just hours apart in Los Angeles County, which doctors said was a record-breaking number of twins in a 12-hour span.
A Clovis groom had worse luck than these new parents when he got stuck in an elevator on his wedding day. He was on his way down to the ceremony, and although he was rescued fairly quickly, the wedding was delayed by an hour and a half.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy chose the wrong time to have sex. She was reportedly caught engaging in a sex act that was broadcast over her department-issued radio. The department said it would investigate, and deputies have been punished for similar offenses in the past.
Oddly enough, the deputy wasn’t the only source of poorly timed sex noises this year. Passengers on an American Airlines flight were subjected to a moaning sound playing over the PA system for their entire flight from LAX to Dallas. Passengers said the sound was somewhere between moaning and vomiting, but American Airlines said it was just a mechanical issue.
Of course, it’s not always just about timing. Some Californian’s were up to no good this year with some very unique crimes.
Police say an Oakland woman showed up to court to address charges of a stolen vehicle… in a stolen vehicle.
“When making a court appearance after being arrested for stealing a car, DON’T show up in another stolen car,” Dublin Police Services said in a Tweet.

The driver of a stolen party bus led Los Angeles County police on an epic chase down the San Diego (405) Freeway. The chase went from Sherman Oaks to the Newhall area and ended in a crash when the party bus exited the freeway and rear-ended another vehicle. Police say the bus could have been stolen in San Diego.
In Santa Monica, a woman was accused of biting a police officer after having a fit at a restaurant. That same woman had been reporter missing by her family in Australia because they hadn’t heard from her in days. Turns out she was in police custody.
California is known for its year-round wildlife encounters. In Riverside County in October, a coyote was found in a middle school bathroom and returned into the wild. The coyote was trapped in a bathroom stall hiding behind a toilet. The staff at Jurupa Valley middle school found the coyote before school started, avoiding some chaos.

A pregnant sea lion roamed onto a Carlsbad golf course in June, journeying about three miles from the ocean. Videos show the sea lion waddling across the course before the resort staff called the SeaWorld rescue team, who returned the sea lion to the ocean. They think the lion came through a lagoon.
