Bella Hadid Is on Medical Leave and Quietly Broke Up With Marc Kalman in the Spring
Bella Hadid is back on the market—and has quietly been for some time. Entertainment Tonight reports that the model and boyfriend Marc Kalman broke up in the spring. The outlet also revealed why Hadid has been out of the spotlight recently: She has been getting medical treatment for Lyme disease.
Regarding her split with Kalman, a source said, “They were very in love, but the relationship ultimately ran its course and they decided to end things. Bella is a very nice person, but struggles with the pressures of fame. She has been trying to take care of herself since their split.”
The outlet also reported about Hadid’s medical leave, explaining that she is receiving treatment daily for Lyme disease. The source disputed a tabloid report that Hadid was in rehab.
“Bella Hadid has been on medical leave for the past four months, and is in daily treatment for Lyme disease,” the source said. “Nine months ago, Bella decided she wanted to stop drinking, so she stopped. She has been sober for nine months and has never had an alcohol or drug problem. Bella is not in rehab.”
Hadid has been open about her struggles with fame. She touched on being compared to her older sister Gigi Hadid, who’s also a model, in an interview with Vogue last March.
“I was the uglier sister. I was the brunette. I wasn’t as cool as Gigi, not as outgoing,” she recalled. “That’s really what people said about me. And unfortunately when you get told things so many times, you do just believe it. I always ask myself, how did a girl with incredible insecurities, anxiety, depression, body-image issues, eating issues, who hates to be touched, who has intense social anxiety—what was I doing getting into this business? But over the years I became a good actress. I put on a very smiley face, or a very strong face. I always felt like I had something to prove. People can say anything about how I look, about how I talk, about how I act. But in seven years I never missed a job, canceled a job, was late to a job. No one can ever say that I don’t work my ass off.”
