Dua Lipa's Backless Slip Dress Is Perfect Italian Vacation Attire
Dua Lipa spent her weekend enjoying Milan in high style. The singer shared photos of herself grabbing gelato in a chic backless slip dress. “The salted pistachio gelato lasted a good 30 secs,” she captioned the Instagram carousel of vacation shots. She accessorized with a black bag and shoes.
That wasn’t Lipa’s only look of the weekend. She shared an image of herself in a bodysuit and black skirt with a high leg slit on her Instagram Story, offering one more example of her going out attire:
Lipa also posted a behind-the-scenes photo of the Barbie cast, buried in her gallery of “camera roll randoms” that she shared on July 21 in a third Instagram.
It’s worth noting that none of the Barbie cast can promote the film outright due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike; it would be considered as crossing picket lines. But the cast did travel to six cities around the globe to promote the film before the strike began.
Lipa, who is featured on the Barbie album and has a brief role as Mermaid Barbie in the movie, the premieres in Los Angeles and London.
She shared her own shots from the events at the time, confirming she chose her first fishnet-like dress to pay homage to her character.
The second look came from her and Versace’s La Vacanza collection:
While Lipa can’t talk about acting in Barbie now, the film’s hair and makeup artist Ivana Primorac spoke to Glamour about Lipa’s beauty for the role and how it was designed the mimic the mermaid Barbie doll exactly.
“Dua Lipa’s mermaid look is great fun, because she is the only one that truly is a copy of the toy,” Primorac said. “Because she appears in the surf, we all thought it would be fun to actually make her look identical to the toy. So her hair and her tail were actually identical to the original Barbie toys, because I just thought that was a nice nod to the real Mattel Barbie Mermaids, rather than making her into a stylized one. She does look like a toy.”
