Another murder mystery is afoot in the Arconia, and citizen detective-slash-true crime podcaster Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) is once again on the case—even if her pals Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) are too preoccupied with their new Broadway show to care.
This time, the victim is Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), an arrogant movie star who was set to make his Broadway debut in Oliver’s play, Death Rattle. But before he can complete his opening night performance, he drops dead on stage, comes back to life, and then dies for real in the Arconia elevator. So, who did it? (We’re already rounding up our theories here.)
The third season of Only Murders in the Building introduces a number of new cast members, hence a new set of suspects in Mabel, Charles, and Oliver’s orbit. There’s Loretta (Meryl Streep), the aspiring actress who appears to have bad blood with Ben, as well as fellow actor Kimber (Ashley Park) and Ben’s brother/assistant Dickie (Jeremy Shamos). And then there is Tobert—yes, that is his name—the cameraman filming the documentary on Ben’s Broadway foray, played by Jesse Williams.
More From ELLE
Tobert might seem like an innocent background player at first, but as a documentarian, he’s kind of an omniscient observer on set. He’s probably able to catch details that others can’t—or get away with things with anyone else noticing. So what, exactly, is he doing in Ben’s apartment in this week’s episode?
In a new clip from season 3, episode 3, premiering exclusively on ELLE.com, Tobert is seen snooping around Ben’s place along with Mabel, though it appears they ran into each other unexpectedly. Mabel claims she’s looking for a headshot; Tobert says he’s looking for his boom mic (in a drawer, though? Mabel calls BS). “We’re both clearly up to something and we’re both clearly pretty shitty liars,” he confesses. But before they can come clean about what they’re actually doing, they hear someone entering the apartment. Tobert and Mabel hide in the armoire, and Dickie walks in. To do what, we’ve yet to find out.
