Couple warned to rethink baby boy's name as some brand it 'cold and harsh' – The Mirror

Parents were quick to urge the couple to reconsider the name as many were convinced their little boy would likely be bullied because of the unconventional moniker
For many parents, baby names are years in the making – as couples will often consider their choices long before they're expecting. Sometimes, they're keen to use a loved one's name, or perhaps they've drawn inspiration from another influential figure in their lives.
Enter a man who would love to name his son after Johnny Cash. Specifically, 'Cash'. The dad-to-be isn't yet expecting a baby with his partner, but he'd love to use the moniker when the time comes.
Unfortunately, his partner's not so convinced and neither are Reddit users, as he found out when he sought advice. "My girlfriend hates it and thinks it's ridiculous, friends have mixed opinions.
"We're far from kids and obviously not gonna fight too hard for a name she doesn't like but curious of others thoughts?" wrote the Johnny Cash fan.
But Reddit users were quick to warn against the name, as they spotted a potential problem. Someone replied: "Considering it's also slang for money, I wouldn't recommend it. It feels kind of cold and harsh to name a child after money."
Meanwhile, a jokester put: "I prefer Debit," and a second said: "Accepted as payment in more places than Cash these days, sadly. The swankier sibling would be named Credit, but so much depends on their test scores."
Another adviser wrote: "I think it's tacky." A different person thought: "Lame! Use it as a nickname for Cassius or something similar. It's as eye rolling as people who name their kid Lennox after like Annie Lennox. Hell name him John even. He may not like Cash at all."
Someone else worried: "Imagine the bullying. Cute as a nickname, but not as a given name." It wasn't all bad news, however. Elsewhere, a commenter revealed: "I actually know a few guys named Cash who are in their 20s. It's not my favorite, but it's also not what I would consider terrible."
"It's actually getting popular and I don't hate it!" added a second, and a fellow fan remarked: "I like it, but I'm biased cause I love Johnny Cash so much."
Others also suggested searching for a compromise. "It's a cute middle name," read one such reply. Another wrote: "I like it as a nickname for Cassius, otherwise no."
