Brits baffled as American woman puts butter in her sandwich for the first time – The Mirror

An American woman has caused an outrage to Brits as she shared her ‘food hack’ – where she put butter in her sandwich and admitted she was a fan of the combination
When it comes to food, there have been a lot of influences on British cuisine from other nations – take a classic Italian carbonara or an American-style burger. But there's one thing Brits do well – a classic sandwich. A staple now known all over the world, sometimes there's nothing better than your favourite filling in bread.
But one woman has caused a stir online after she had only just tried putting butter in her ham and cheese sarnie, and Brits aren't impressed. As she called it a "brand new food hack" for Americans, people are baffled as to why she's only just started doing it.
The American TikToker was posted on the viral hack page @purewow, as she showed herself trying butter with her ham and cheese sandwich and said, "British people do something very weird with their sandwiches that I think you guys would find strange," as she started buttering her bread. "Ham, cheese, and butter, I mean, what's not to like," she contiuned.
Admitting that she knew people outside of America did it, she found it a strange concept. The video, which was posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by the account @thebigjohnnyd, wrote: "America is a failed state," as the woman further added: "Anyone outside of the US would probably agree that butter on a sandwich is totally normal, but for many, this is a brand new food hack that they're just discovering for the first time.
"This concept is totally new for me, and I gotta say I like it. It provides flavour and moisture to your sandwich, but it doesn't make your bread soggy like mayo can," and asks others what they think.
The video was met with a lot of confused users, as one person asked: "is this satire?" whilst another commented: "What do they do with butter though, if they aren't buttering their bread? *cries*," and one who had experienced the lack of buttered sandwiches firsthand added: "I know people think this might be a joke, I went over two months ago and they didn't have butter on bread. About 40+ different spreads, and no one had butter on bread. How do you have Marshmallow spread and mayo on sandwiches but no butter!!!?"
