'I'm sick of my neighbours' kids screaming – my revenge made them stop for good' – The Mirror
The man was left asking ‘who the hell runs and screams up to 3am?’ after being woken up by kids making noises and running around his apartment building. On his birthday he finally got them to be quiet
Everyone knows you can never promise how children are going to behave – this was the excuse given to one man when he asked his neighbours for quiet during the early hours of the morning after being woken up at 3am by kids in the apartments surrounding his. However, he unintentionally got his own revenge during his birthday night, which put an end to his misery for good.
The man explained when he was living in an apartment block he had a neighbour to the right and one above who had children that made, he claims, a lot of noise during the day and night. He shared that he "didn't have a problem with the noises at day" and even said "it was understandable" but was left asking "who the hell runs and screams up to 3am?" after being woken up.
In a recent Reddit post, the disgruntled resident shared that he'd asked in the building's WhatsApp group for his neighbours to keep their children quiet at night, as he and everyone else needed their sleep, but he was met with parents telling him they could "not promise anything". Weeks later, the man explained it was his birthday and one of his friends bought him a soundbar.
He added: "When I got home I was too excited to hear some music from it. It was like 12am and I really wasn't thinking about any revenge or something. Just wanted to try this new soundbar." He continued: "I played my rock playlist with a high volume and meanwhile on my PC trying to figure out its features. At around 2:30am the same neighbour (top floor) came and knocked at my door."
Detailing the conversation exchange, the man said the neighbour was asking if he could "keep it quiet" but before the neighbour could finish speaking the man simply told him "sorry I didn't notice the time" and proceeded to turn it off. Since this encounter, the man claims, he has never heard the children in his building during the nighttime or early hours.
Replying to his post, some people shared their annoyance at how noisy people who live in shared buildings can be. One person said: "It's really surprising how ignorant people are when it comes to noise in apartments. I think every new person to an apartment should start on the main floor and work their way up." Another added: "Sad to realise that for a huge percentage of people, they only change their behaviour if it directly affects themselves."
Others tried to point out how not everyone realises just how loud they are being. One person said: "Had a neighbour in a duplex house. He was a first chair trombone for the local symphony and his wife worked in promotions for said symphony. Being a professional musician and first chair he needed to practice a lot. It only took a couple of days after moving in when I got a knock on the door. He just wanted to know the best hours to practice," whilst another added: "Most of the time people just don't realise how sounds travel through paper-thin walls."
