'A stranger kissed my toddler on the lips in a supermarket – I was horrified' – The Mirror

A woman was left mortified when a stranger decided that she would kiss her 20-month-old son on the lips – and she wasn’t happy, despite the fact she was apologetic
When you take your little one out and about, the likelihood you'll get others cooing over them is high. From strangers telling you how adorable they are, to asking how old they are and when they were born, it's all part and parcel of being a parent – and you might even find the attention endearing.
But one woman was left mortified when an entitled shop assistant asked her 20-month-old son for a 'kissy', and proceeded to "kiss him on the mouth." She was left asking "Why?" and she was still furious, despite the fact the woman had apologised to her.
The stressed mother wrote on Reddit: "Aaaah so annoyed! At the food store that I go to regularly, I am a stay-at-home mum and so we go regularly for a little outing in the day, and the lady who sees us often that works at the one counter asked my son for a 'kissy' and then kissed him on his mouth.
"I immediately said 'Did you kiss him on the mouth?' and she said yes and I said no no no don't do that. She apologised. It's just so annoying. I know I can be quite a friendly person and maybe she thought it was fine but aaaah why????!!!"
Of course, it's advised by the NHS not to kiss a baby on the lips, especially if you have a cold sore, as it can cause neonatal herpes. It can cause babies to become seriously unwell, and symptoms include the baby lacking in energy, becoming floppy and unresponsive, and breathing rapidly.
In the comments, others shared their unusual similar experiences. One wrote: "I was at the store with my 18-month-old and he was eating a banana. A random lady came by and asked him cutely if she could have a bite. I thought she was joking – and then she bit a piece off his banana and walked away."
"Oh hell no, why are people even comfortable doing this to kids they don't even know", someone questioned, whilst another fumed: "What the actual f**k. I would have lost my mind."
