Woman asks colleague to pay her back for dinner and receives outrageous response – The Mirror

A woman was left astonished after she was made to foot the bill of an expensive dinner when her friend ‘forgot’ her purse – and was met with an outrageous response after three weeks of chasing up the money
Going out for dinner can be a little luxury every once in a while but as it can get expensive, it's a nice treat to have.
One woman, who decided to go for dinner with a colleague, was left astounded by the savage response she got when she ended up having to pay for the meal as her colleague had claimed to have forgotten her purse.
Sharing that she lives pay check to pay check, she needed the money back for the pricey meal, as her colleague had ordered appetisers, a large meal, a dessert and multiple drinks and she was now struggling for money after footing the pricey tab.
As she ended up paying to diffuse any awkwardness, she stated she barely makes a "liveable wage" and that she needed the money back from her colleague – but was not expecting the response she got after three weeks of chasing the money up.
Taking to Reddit to explain the situation, she wrote: "A few weeks ago I decided to grab some dinner with a co-worker. I rarely, if ever, go out to eat as it's so expensive these days but I finally decided to treat myself one night. My co-worker ordered appetisers for herself, multiple drinks, a larger dinner and even dessert.
"When it came time to pay we were each going to just pay for our food but she conveniently forgot her wallet and just kind of sat there staring at me. I'm an awkward person and I really didn't want to even cover her food in the moment because it was more than I could even afford but it was such a weird situation and she promised to pay me back so to just end the evening I covered her bill expecting to get reimbursed."
Three weeks later, she decided to chase up her money again. Posting a screenshot of the conversation, alongside the Reddit post, her colleague politely responded: "I get paid next week I'll be sure to hit you up then!" to which the woman started to get frustrated with her friend, and replied: "I'm not trying to be rude but you've been saying that for over three weeks now. Just keep pushing it back and back".
"I know and I'm sorry! S**t has been crazy recently. I have other s**t that takes priority that I need to focus my money on," her colleague explained.
The Reddit post further said: "Now that was weeks ago and she keeps posting on Instagram and Snapchat about going out to fancy restaurants or weekend trips but she always has an excuse when I ask to be paid back. I barely make a liveable wage and being in the red because of her has caused me so much anxiety, I feel like such an idiot."
When she then confronted her about the social media snaps of going for dinners and trips away, it appeared to cause friction and she was "frustrated" seeing all the photos of her friend out for more dinners. She said back to her colleague: "Okay but you know I struggle to get by and like not for anything but you're posting about going for dinner again tonight while I'm struggling." This then caused tension, and her colleague came back with a savage reply and said: "Alright and? Are you just gonna stalk my socials every day calling out s**t that I'm doing?"
This then caused even more tension, and the woman said she felt like she was being "brushed off", to which her colleague said she was "done talking" to her. Posting the conversation on Reddit, many users were quick to reassure the woman that she was not an idiot and her colleague was in the wrong. One person wrote: "I personally would start replying to all of her Instagram feeds where she's going out saying oh when are you gonna pay me back my hundred dollars? Start embarrassing her in public or with your other co-workers."
