For a landlocked state with no ocean in sight, it’s pretty bizarre that whaling is illegal in the state. This law comes from the Oklahoma code on Game & Fish, where Oklahoma statutes ban the hunting or killing of any threatened species. As most whales are considered threatened at a minimum, they are technically illegal to kill in Oklahoma.
According to Oklahoma statute 21-1700, it is illegal for any person to participate in any capacity at a horse-tripping event. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not exceeding one year, or by a fine of not more than $2,000.00 or both.
It is against the law in Oklahoma to use elephants for labor, including plowing cotton fields. This law probably dates back to a time when elephants were occasionally used as worker in showcases and circuses. This law sought to ensure animal welfare and intends to defend animals from exploitative labor.
