Man discovers 'hidden' compartment in toaster – and is sure others don't know about it – The Mirror

A man was shocked to discover there was a ‘hidden’ compartment tray at the bottom of his toaster, and he’s convinced other toast fans don’t know about the handy function
Every day is a school day.
Just when you think there's no more to learn, you realise something that completely catches you off guard. A man felt compelled to share what he learned after realising he'd been cleaning his toaster wrong his whole life.
Toasters can get really grubby after a while because of the build-up of crumbs. So this man thought he was doing the right thing by unplugging the device, and then shaking it into the bin.
However, there's a much easier, and more efficient way of doing it, but he had no idea, and is convinced others don't know about it either. Taking to forum website Reddit, he urged people to "empty your toaster tray".
Up until this recently, he had no idea the 'hidden' toaster tray compartment existed. The anonymous forum user wrote: "I didn't know that was a thing I normally just unplug and shake in bin. So toaster trays people if I don't know I'm sure other people don't."
The forum user also shared a picture of their toaster showing the tray, which can be slid out easily from underneath the appliance. This is where all the crumbs are collected, and you simply have to pull it out, and then you can take it to the bin.
It turns out he was right, as he wasn't the only one who didn't know that there was an easier way to clean the toaster. One person wrote: "I haven't looked, but I bet mine looks like the top of an apple crumble."
Another added: "Oh wow I just found a loaf's worth of crumbs," and someone else commented: "Very bizarre, I JUST did this yesterday for the first time in however long. Also, we may have the same toaster!"
A fourth person wrote: "I know about it, but it took a good 15 years of owning a toaster to realise it," and another warned: "It can be a fire risk if it is not emptied on a fairly regular basis."
So how often should you be cleaning the toaster? According to an expert from Morphy Richards it should be "at least once a week". Crumbs in the toaster tray can smoke or burn, which is why it needs to be done regularly.
