Mum trying to lose weight left in stitches at Aldi Too Good To Go 'bag from hell' – The Mirror

A mum wanted to cut back on spending a fortune on her food shop and ordered a £3.30 ‘magic bag’ from Aldi, but she was left stunned when she found £40-worth of cheese inside
A mum was left stunned when she discovered £40-worth of smelly cheese in her 'Too Good To Go' bag that needed to be eaten the same day.
Charlotte Paget was left cheesed off when she nipped out to get her £3.30 'magic bag' to cook a range of meals for the week. The 27-year-old had challenged herself to spend £15 a week on meals in the new year, so selected Aldi bag in the hopes of picking up a balanced bag of discounted groceries.
However, when she got home and opened the bag together with her partner, the pair were left in stitches of laughter when they found ten blocks of Gorgonzola cheese inside, some oranges, and a loaf of bread.
The mum-of-one , from Pontypool, Wales, had been secretly hoping it may include a sweet treat for an after-dinner snack but instead was left having "cheese dreams". "They had to all be used up by that day, it was hilarious – we just sat rolling in laughter," Charlotte said.
Despite the cheese being on its last day, the catering assistant found it "hilarious" and ended up giving most of it away to family and work friends. Now left feeling "cheesed out", the mum is still using the app but hopes to nab a more balanced bag of food next time.
Charlotte said: "I went up to the Aldi at about half past nine. I thought, 'Right, I'm not going to open it, I'll wait and see what I've got when I'm home'. I wanted to save the excitement.
"I got home and took it upstairs and opened it with my partner. It was sort of like pulling a cat out of a bag or something. I pulled out the first block of cheese then it was like, 'Okay, another one and another one…' so I ended up tipping out the bag. I was so confused.
"He was like 'What are you going to do with all that cheese?' They had to all be used up by that day. It was probably about £40-worth of cheese. It wouldn't have been bad if it was Christmas time as I could have some hampers or a cheeseboard.
"When you're going out late at night you think 'Oh maybe I might get a cheese cake or something', like a nice sweet treat. Instead I ended up with cheese dreams."
While she managed to make some meals with it, including a carbonara and gourmet pulled pork burgers, Charlotte struggled to use up all ten blocks. She even tried to get her seven-year-old son on board, but the "weird" cheese was too strong for his young tastebuds.
Charlotte said: "It's a weird cheese as well. I do like cheese but not as stinky as that, it was quite strong. I did try and tone it down in a carbonara. My son was like 'what's that?' and I told him it was cheese and he said 'you can't eat all that cheese'.
"He didn't like it at all, he spat it straight out. He said 'that's not cheese, it's disgusting'. It was a little bit too strong for him, but he enjoyed it in the carbonara so it wasn't wasted."
Despite not being able to use it much herself, the cleaner managed to give it away to relatives and work colleagues and now she hopes for a more versatile mix of food in the future. Charlotte continued: "I was expecting veg, maybe sausages or something but never that much cheese.
"My friends at work were in fits of laughter because they've been doing TooGoodToGo's as well but have been coming away with vegetables. And I came back with ten packs of gorgonzola in the middle of January when we're all trying to diet.
"It didn't go to waste. They were all laughing their heads off. It's just a typical thing to happen to me.
"I've got one to pick up later on. I've managed to get one for tonight from Aldi so I hope I'm not going to be picking up more cheese."
Charlotte posted the picture of her 'cheese fest' online and many flooded to the comments to share their thoughts. One person said: "This is actually my idea of heaven [heart eye emoji] x" Another joked: "I don't brie-lieve it."
Another wrote: "Only any good if you love stinky cheese." A fourth, less positive said: "This is my bag from hell lol."
Another suggested: "Grate 'em up and freeze the cheese!" A final put: "Cheesiest post I’ve seen for a while [winky face]."
