Woman left gobsmacked after 'petty' neighbour 'swiped' doormat in 'sad' row – The Mirror

A seemingly innocent doormat is at the heart of a neighbourly row. But 27-year-old Dominique Beining sought the perfect revenge after she accused next door of ‘swiping’ the item whilst she was out
A neighbourly feud has broken out, and the passive-aggressive antics keep escalating.
It's hard to find the right balance with neighbours. You don't want them to hate you and refuse any parcels when you're out – but you also don't want them over all the time trying to arrange a wine-tasting night. However, one woman inadvertently beefed her neighbour by placing a doormat outside.
Dominique Beining was visiting friends in London when she received a message from her Landlord explaining he'd received a complaint about the inoffensive mat, which was beige and had no text or imagery on it. The 27-year-old says even the landlord admitted he was 'embarrassed' for asking if she could bring it inside when she returned home.
However, when she arrived back at her flat two days later – the mat was missing, and she suspects it was her neighbour. "I bought a new mat for my door TWO DAYS AGO," she said in a video that has amassed more than 1.4 million views. "The devil works fast but my middle-aged presumably unemployed neighbour works faster. You know it's bad when even the landlord is embarrassed."
The singer sought revenge by leaving a note in the communal hallway with a face mask sheet she bought from Boots. "To the person who snitched on me to my landlord and then stole my doormat. Please take this mask. You clearly need to relax," the note read.

But Beining, from Brighton, says she is now over the pettiness – and has purchased a new doormat from Poundland that she keeps on the inside of her apartment. Some viewers pointed out the mat may have been seen as a potential fire hazard.
"I have a busy life so I'm not too bothered by it. I hope they have a happy life with my doormat," the woman added. "I think there are bigger issues in the world right now than worrying about the doormat. I'd say to others struggling with their neighbours, if somebody has that much time on their hands, light a little candle for them because they must be struggling with something."
