'I was labelled 'jealous' over bridesmaid dress at best friend's wedding – but she set me up' – The Mirror
An old friend waited weeks for her invitation to her supposed best friend’s wedding, but she has been left with a ‘destroyed reputation’ after she was set up for embarrassment on the wedding day
The stress of organising a wedding can be eased by the support of loved ones and bridesmaids, so the last thing you want is a tale of friendship fall-outs ahead of the big day.
One bridesmaid was left stunned when she was described as "jealous" and "unhinged" by her best friend and bride-to-be for being upset over her bridesmaid dress – but she was "set up" and the bridal party turned on her.
The bridesmaid, who wishes to remain unnamed, had known the bride since the pair were children. While they did not see one another as much anymore, they remained close. The childhood bestie had even hung out with the bride and her husband-to-be – who happened to be the bridesmaid's old boyfriend. "I reassured her that there was absolutely nothing romantic; I was happy she was happy," the woman shared on Reddit.
Six weeks before the wedding, the bridesmaid was "relieved" when she was asked to stand by her old friend's side on her wedding day. But she was taken aback when the bride insisted she wears a white dress.
The confused bridesmaid said: "On the wedding day, when I entered the room, every last bridesmaid was in a blue dress – I was the only one in white.
"My stomach dropped." The bridesmaid said she had been told by the bride that she was doing a reverse colour palette for the bridal party – all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen were wearing white, and she and the groom were wearing black.
"I had a white slip dress already that would work and sent her a picture of it and she verbally approved it," she wrote. "But on the wedding day, it became clear something was amiss: she had been worked over."
The smooth sailing communication between the old friend and bride before the wedding did seem unusual; she was not made maid of honour and not invited to the engagement party. She added: "It was a shock to discover there were no plans for her to be in the wedding. Instead, a cousin was made maid of honour.
"I was pretty hurt by this. I was her closest and oldest friend. I introduced her to her fiancé and was friends with him too."
But when she turned up in white, people thought she still had feelings for the groom.
The bridesmaid in her white dress became enemy number one on the wedding day, despite her attempts to defend herself. She added: "The cousin started screaming at me, going off on me about how I was jealous, in love with the groom, and how completely unhinged I was."
But worst of all, the bride commented: "I think we both know that this is the end of our friendship. I've given you too many chances. It's time for you to go."
She has struggled to recover from the betrayal and humiliation. The heartbroken former friend said: "My reputation is destroyed. My life is in tatters."
Commenters were appalled at the way the bridesmaid was treated. "She is a psychopath. She literally try to make you look bad without and reason other than her pleasure," said one person.
"This sounds like the plot of a soap opera. Obviously you're not the a**hole," said a second person.
