A ghostly arm filmed by a baby monitor, a pair of villages plagued by perceived dark forces, and a Russian security guard who tried to eat an art piece were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.
A pair of peculiar stories involving villages that were seemingly plagued by some kind of sinister supernatural spirit popped up in the news this past week. First, in India, panic gripped the community of Kandrakota after the remnants of a mysterious ritual were discovered and a resident subsequently spotted an eerie black figure that leaped from a tree before vanishing into the night. The spooky sighting led to people taking up arms and patrolling the streets while police did their best to quell the growing hysteria. Meanwhile, in Thailand, a staggering series of 15 mysterious deaths since the start of the year led a village to revive a set of strict traditional rules that had long been thought to protect the community, but had often gone ignored in recent years.

This past week featured two particularly eerie videos that showed possible paranormal activity. In England, a father was taken aback when he checked his son’s baby monitor and saw what appeared to be a ghostly arm manifest out of thin air and reach into the youngster’s crib. Although uncertain as to what the anomaly was, he expressed hope that it might be his late mother checking on her grandson from the ‘other side.’ Later in the week, attentive TV viewers watching coverage of a devastating wildfire in Chile spotted an unsettling figure that seemingly emerged out of the flames.

By far the weirdest story of the week came by way of Russia, where a security guard at an art exhibition was fired for inexplicably trying to eat one of the pieces. The weird incident unfolded when the unnamed man caught sight of a work, titled ‘Escape of the Goldfish,’ that featured a depiction of the animal making a magical leap from a bowl of water to a painting of the ocean. Seemingly suspecting that the fish was real, the guard actually went so far as to rip it from the piece and then nibble on it in a truly bizarre scene that was captured by security cameras. When later questioned as to why he had vandalized the work, the man’s only excuse was that he had not gotten enough sleep the night before what wound up being his now-former job.
